The Habonim cryogenic ball valve explained

All Habonim cryogenic ball valves as a standard guarantee the highest integrity level through the patented HermetiX™ stem seal and the new total HermetiX™ integrity package. The total HermetiX™ sealing systems consists both out of double bonnet seals and double body seals.

Fire safe ánd ISO 15848-1 certified design

In a contrary to many other valve manufacturers, the Habonim design rules out the need of graphite in the stem sealing as a means to guarantee fire safe functionality. Because no graphite is utilized in the stem seal, the HABONIM ball valves are fully certified for 500.000 maintenance-free cycles acc. to ISO 15548-1 and API641 for fugitive emissions. This high amount of operations without the need for maintenance is unique for any manufacturer of ball valves.

No stem seal leakages and no body sealing leakages

The unique Habonim HermetiX™ sealing system comprising out of double bonnet sealing and double body seals further guarantees long-term tightness and integrity. As a result our Habonim cryogenic ball valves deliver the required reliability and integrity which are essential for any cryogenic application.

Minimizing thermal expansion

Another advantage of the Habonim design is its focus on small but essential elements such as thermal expansion. As any adopter knows, one of the most critical elements of cryogenic applications is the fact that processes are to cope with a switch from ambient temperature towards process temperature (-196°C / -296°C.) As a consequence, steel components expand & shrink due to the process of thermal expansion. When body bolts expand, valves may risk leakages at critical areas.

Conventionally, long body bolts are used for ball valves, going entirely from one piece of the valve to the other. The larger these body bolts are, the greater they may expand, potentially exerting large forces on the housing and the body seals. As a results, body seals may fail and valves may leak. Habonim acknowledges this risk and prevents body leakages by utilizing two smaller body bolts per connection point, rather than one large bolt. As a result, thermal expansion is twice as low and leakages are prevented. This is one of many examples in which small design adjustments can have major consequences for the performance of cryogenic ball valves.

One compact automated package – one make

Automated Habonim ball valves are standard operated by the Habonim Compact™ pneumatic actuator. The Compact actuator is a quarter-turn rack & pinion pneumatic actuator that doubles the torque of standard pneumatic actuators. The superior performance is achieved by Habonim patented four-piston design, which generates torque around a centrally located piston. This translates into double the power for the same size actuator or half the size for the same amount of power. At the same time, it stabilizes the actuators’ forces, thereby minimizing overall wearing. Other significant advantages include faster operating times, a more compact overall design and less air consumption.
